Review: NYC Bootcamp: Discovery & Colgate

by Sebastien.

It started Thursday evening with a ‘meet and greet’. We were a group of 5 students; an interesting mix of different ages, characters, and personalities. I didn’t know who Discovery was or how he looked like, but when he and Colgate arrived to the hotel lobby where we were supposed to meet I could tell from his wardrobe and intriguing demeanor that it was him. We went out for a Pizza and a few drinks and I saw Discovery interact with a few girls that night and I could instantly see that he is very, very good; a master at the game.

The bootcamp started Friday at noon. Since we were only 5 students it was very easy to have a casual and interactive discussion. Discovery was not trying to cram information in but rather focus on key things and highlight their importance with examples. He covered some theory and moved to the practical stuff: how to open, body posture, voice tonality and projection, etc. After a few hours all the info was so energizing that all I wanted to do was go and try the stuff I learned. I got my chance at lunch: we were sitting outside and a 9 walked by in a classy business suit. Everyone stared at her and Discovery tried to discreetly tell us not to all look at once. I had my back to her so I only saw her after she passed by and she did not see me so I was not going to miss my chance. I got up, went after her and opened her, ‘locked her in’ just like I was taught, and it all worked like charm, and then…, I ran out of material and did not know what else to do. We had not covered the rest yet. I had to use my usual chit-chat that didn’t get me anywhere. I went back to the afternoon session even more eager to learn because I saw how effective the stuff was. At 6 pm we started practicing what we learned on each other to get ready for the evening.

The day session was great, but the real value came from putting what we learned to practice at night. They say a picture is worth a thousand words; well an infield is worth a thousand lessons. We went out to a classy rooftop bar, we were a group of guys with no girls, Discovery was super well dressed with a very intriguing wardrobe, Colgate had his designer jeans jacket on, but as for us, we were dressed less than average. I thought to myself we would be lucky if we get in, but Discovery managed to get us in without waiting in line. He exchanged a few words with the bouncer, went back and got a group of girls out of the line, waved at us, and next I know we were in. The place was crowded; I went to open a first set to warm-up and came back. Discovery gave us general advice like not to look around nervously, not to hold the drink very high, not to look very serious, smile, give the impression that we are all having a great time …etc. Then he left and started working the room. He started talking to this big guy and showed him some pictures, and that was Discovery’s first step in ‘owning’ the whole venue. The guy had actually a big group with him with many hot girls and Discovery merged their group and befriended them; they were all laughing and having fun. From that point on the dynamic of the evening changed. Discovery became the center of the venue and the girls arriving would walk by him just to see what’s happening there. I guess they were trying to check-out the group with the best vibe in the place. He opened almost every set that went by him and was kind of giving attention to everyone, and he kiss closed so many times. I would go next to him just because that’s where the girls were. He created such an energy that lifted us all and we were all opening and talking to people, and Colgate was relentlessly pushing us to open, following us, giving us feedback, correcting us, and he was a very good observer. He would be winging one of us and observing the other at the same time to come and give him feedback later. Sometimes I would be talking to my target and Discovery would turn over to tell me thank you for that great thing I did earlier and I did not have to do it. He did it several times and he would be so sincere that I almost believed that I did something great earlier. The girl would get so intrigued and every time he did it, it helped me with the girl I was with. That was great. Between Discovery and Colgate the attention we all got was almost like one-on-one. At the end of the night all the information and the focus required drained me. I needed to let it all sink in. I don’t know how many sets I opened that night, I was aiming at 7 but I lost count after 15.

Saturday’s day session started with an individual review of what we each did the night before, what we did right and should keep doing, what we need to improve, and what we need to stop doing, with great attention to details. Then we were given more material, how to stack forward, how to demonstrate higher value, how to deal with tests, how to deal with alpha males, etc. It was a higher pace than Friday’s session with a lot more information and I think it was good to do it this way: start with the most important things and then increase the pace after we had exposure. Saturday night I kind of knew what to expect so I was much more prepared, better dressed, and I had way better results than the night before. Discovery repeated the show of the night before, owning the venue, lifting girls for superstar pictures, kiss closing so many times. One thing got stuck in my mind from that night was how Colgate with his eyes and the power of body language alone got a hot waitress to sit next to him and start talking to him without him saying a single word. After he talked to her she did not want to leave; she was looking to make sure her boss does not see her. Seeing these guys at work, opening, interacting, kiss closing, is of incredible value. By observing them, not only you know how you need to apply the stuff you learned earlier in the day to get results, but also you see what is possible to achieve, how far you can push things, and it is impressive. Again that night we all got a lot of information and personalized feedback, but honestly it was tiring. The venue was bigger and there were more sets to manage and a lot more opportunities to practice. I don’t know how many sets I opened that night, I almost talked to everyone. When I would isolate a girl, I would tell her let’s go make new friends, and I would say hi to sets I did not open yet. When I would come back to open them, it would be so easy because they had seen me with a girl. It was a great night but by 2 am I ran out of energy. It was a whole new world for me and it needed a lot of focus and attention, so I called it a night. That turned out to be a mistake because a hot 9 who was my target in a set that I entertained for over 25 min to get to her, and I was able to isolate her, left and said she’ll come back and I thought she would not, but Discovery later told me she came back after I had left. Oh well.

Sunday again we met for a review of the night before with detailed feedback, and then we tackled the day game and went out for lunch and some day game practice. Two of us chose to do the extra Sunday night so it was one-on-one with Discovery and Colgate, and Discovery wanted to push us a little further so he said he and Colgate will take a backseat and it is for us to run the show. We did OK; I learned the importance of working the men to dominate the venue. Later I opened a couple, isolated the girl, brought her back, rolled off, came back for her, and kiss closed her. I was amazed I was able to do all that at the end of the weekend.

I was a Ferrari stuck in first gear before the bootcamp, and the results I got changed my life. The whole weekend is very well structured but I believe the most value is in the infield. You get the material during the day and not only you practice at night, but also you get to observe the pros demonstrating exactly how it should be applied to get results. Discovery/Colgate: thank you guys for an excellent bootcamp.

Sebastien.
